Mary ‘Maccamob’ Geocaching Tribute | Remembering a Beloved Cacher

This week, the geocaching community lost one of its brightest lights.
Mary, known to many as one half of Maccamob, left us, and the hole she leaves behind is immense and ever-expanding.

If you’ve been part of the geocaching scene along the eastern coast of Australia, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Mary — at an event, out on a trail, or maybe while she was chasing down another milestone with her trademark smile and energy.

Mary was the kind of cacher who didn’t just log finds; she built friendships, encouraged others, and filled the community with laughter and generosity. Whether she was creating washing baskets full of prizes for the Queensland Outback Geocaching Musters (which everyone vied for), or offering advice to new and upcoming cachers about the fun, the challenges, and the friendships to be made, Mary gave her time and heart freely.

She also gave the best hugs. The kind you never forget — warm, genuine, and full of that unmistakable Mary kindness.

Her caching adventures were nothing short of legendary. From celebrating 40,000 to over 54,000 finds, she approached each one with the same enthusiasm she had from the beginning. Her joy was contagious. She reminded us that geocaching isn’t about numbers — it’s about the people you meet and the memories you create along the way.

Mary, you will be missed and never forgotten. Your laughter, warmth, and generosity have left an indelible mark on our community.

Our sincere condolences to David and the family.

From all of us at Geocaching Downunder, thank you, Mary — for the memories, the laughter, and the love you shared with every cacher you met.

May your next find be somewhere peaceful and full of joy.
